Which one is better? IPS LCD or Super AMOLED display? I think that it is surely a constant debate. When you are going to buy a smartphone, the display type will be one of the remarkable choices that you must need to consider. There are two major types of displays available in the market. These two major displays are IPS LCD Display and the Super AMOLED Display. Basically, both displays have several advantages and disadvantages. Do you need the proper explanation about these two displays which one is better? Then keep reading this whole article.

IPS LCD Display
IPS LCD’s full form is In-Plane Switching Liquid Crystal Display, a type of monitor display and screen technology. Basically, the designer designed this display to solve the main limitations of the twisted memetic field effect (TN) matrix LCDs, which were prevalent in the late 1980s and included strong viewing angle dependence and low-quality color reproduction.
IPS LCD Display is categorized into three types:
- Full array display
- Edge-lit display
- Direct-lit display
The full array display is the best of all. Thus, the LEDs are evenly distributed and have the same color brightness all over the screen. In the edge-lit display, the LEDs can be at the bottom or on the sides or to the edges, so in this display, some parts may occur brighter than the other one, which is its limitation. The last one is the direct-lit display, and it is a common type used in low-end tv mobile phones and monitors.
Super AMOLED Display
The full form of AMOLED is Active Matrix Organic Light Emitting Diode. Super AMOLED is mainly an AMOLED display. It has an integrated touch function: Instead of having a layer that recognizes touch on the screen’s top, it is integrated into the screen itself. An exceptional viewing experience is provided by Super AMOLED Display for you. It offers a wide range of colors with an incredible degree of color clarity, translating into far greater resolution.
AMOLED Displays have been used since 2007 in mobile phones, media players, TVs, and digital cameras that have shown their progress toward low-power, low-cost, high resolution, and large size (for example, 88-inch and 8K resolution) applications. Basically, Samsung has introduced this AMOLED display as a Super AMOLED display to the market.

Comparison With IPS LCD and Super AMOLED Display
Both IPS LCD and Super AMOLED Displays have several advantages and disadvantages. First, come to the IPS LCD Display. The IPS LCD provides a better viewing angle, and we still can see what is on the screen without a bit, and there is no significant color degradation. It provides sharper colors, and this advantage makes this IPS LCD panel different from others, and IPS has more controlled and precise skills to manage the light passing through it.
You will get better contrast options in this display, and this option will create an appearance that is presented (especially if the film) will give you the best experience. IPS LCD has so many disadvantages; also, this is IPS LCdisplay’s response time is not too fast and accurate and below the average static contrast ratio. This IPS LCD has more motion blur than a TN monitor.
Now come to the Super AMOLED displays. AMOLED display provides higher refresh rates than passive-matrix. Generally, these super AMOLED displays have self-emitting diodes, and it allows for faster reaction speeds and a higher contrast level to deliver a more detailed and clearer display. Super AMOLED Display also provides better color reproduction, wider viewing angles, and more.
The designers use very prone organic materials to degrade over a relatively short period of time in AMOLED displays. There have a few disadvantages also in this Super AMOLED display. Initially, super AMOLED displays are prone to screen burn-in, and it leaves a permanent imprint of overused colors from overused images. This display also reduces the maximum brightness and lack of backlighting. For this reason, AMOLED displays may be difficult to view in direct sunlight compared to LCDs.
My Opinion
Now time to decide that IPS LCD Vs. Super AMOLED Display: Which Is Better? My personal opinion is Super AMOLED Display is better than the IPS LCD Display. Because the Super AMOLED displays can produce high refresh rates, although LCD leads in that specific area, this has another advantage of Super AMOLED Disp: this display allows being folded, which manufacturers use to make bezel-less screens that fold behind the display.
